Matcha History

Since the12th century, Zen Buddhist monks have been drinking Chi-Oka Matcha before meditating to help them focus and attain a state of complete peace. Matcha was shared with the Japanese samurai, who drank Matcha to bring harmony into their lives.

In Japan today, Matcha is still an integral part of the traditional Japanese tea ceremony - a cultural ritual often occurring several times each day. The ceremony, established in the 16th century, is a spiritual experience that focuses on harmony (wa), respect (kei), purity (sei), and tranquility (jaku).
